The stories in this publication describe the Civil War in the Charleston area 1860-1865. They originally were published in a series of six special sections of the two Charleston newspapers during the Civil War Centennial, 1960-1965. Following publication, they were combined into a single tabloid which sold more than 60,000 copies through the years. Revised and brought up to date, they are now republished on better grade paper and in more convenient size for home and school use. Information for this publication was obtained from Army and Navy official records, contemporary newspaper accounts and similarly reliable sources. Assistance was received from the South Carolina Historical Society, the Charleston Library Society and the Charleston Museum. It is 9” x 12”, and contains 84 pages with pictures and maps.
